Whats So Bad About Burrs?
Burrs are nothing more than raised edges and rough spots on metal parts. Often, they show up as strips of metal next to a machined surface after machining operations, including milling, grinding, turning and drilling, and they happen all the time. So why does deburring machinery have to be developed to remove them? After all, it takes money to find the right deburring solutions to get rid of them and time to perform the operation. The simple answer is that a machined part won’t work properly if it’s not deburred. The good news is that a lot of work has been done in recent years to improve the quality of machined parts and, at the same time, reduce the cost per part. More about that in a moment. For now, it’s enlightening to discuss the range of problems burrs can cause. When you break them down, the list is pretty impressive. For example burrs can: o Alter the dimensions of a part, making the dimensions inaccurate, and damage the part’s surface o Make parts fit poorly, and cause them t
