What kind o shelter do lions have?
Lions in Africa live on the open savannah, and those in Asia in the Gir Forest of India. They may shelter under a tree or bush from the sun or rain, but they do not have a specific ‘home’ which they regularly return to and shelter in, the way a fox lives in its earth or a badger in its sett, for example. A lioness gives birth in a den, which can be anything from a cave to a patch of dense vegetation, in order to keep her cubs hidden from predators whilst they are young and vulnerable. She will move them to different dens several times, in order to avoid a build-up of scent and/or parasites. Once they are about six weeks old, she will take them to join the rest of the pride. From this time onwards, they will spend the rest of their lives without any shelter other than those I already mentioned.
