What is Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis?
HASHIMOTO’S THYROIDITIS is a chronic inflammatory condition of the thyroid gland. This is probably the most common cause of HYPOTHYROIDISM, or underactive thyroid. This disorder strongly runs in families. This condition can sometimes produce thyroid nodules. As with any chronic inflammatory condition, ultrasound should be performed for surveillance as nodules can develop at any time.
