Can Rough Diamond win the race?
Aidan Doherty and Charlie Carrick both enter horses in a forthcoming race at Ireland’s famous Curragh racecourse. Aidan really needs the money from the win: his neighbour Moira Sweeney’s business is on the brink of bankruptcy because of a VAT demand. But, a week before the race, Aidan’s star owner, Tim Regan, withdraws Sunrise Bay because he doesn’t feel that the horse is ready to run. It’s an almighty blow and, when Aidan goes round to give Moira the bad news, he becomes heavily involved in a card game and ends up betting Jonah’s horse, Rough Diamond. But Jonah and Sheridan have already entered Rough Diamond in the race and, with just a week to go, Aidan works flat out to get the colt ready in time. When race day finally arrives, Aidan’s jockey is bitten by Rough Diamond leaving the trainer with a horse but no rider. Jonah has an idea although it involves taking a huge risk. But if they manage to pull it off, it would mean the sweetest victory for Aidan.
