How are IPCC Reports Created?
The preparation and production of an IPCC report is a major undertaking. After the lead authors have compiled a first draft, the report is circulated among fellow experts who check for accuracy, clarity, and balanced representation of scientifically-accepted views. These experts’ critical comments and suggestions are examined and incorporated into the report’s second draft, which is circulated for review by member governments and skilled professionals. Their comments are considered before a final draft is prepared for submission at a session of the IPCC’s Working Group—a collection of committee heads responsible for individual sections of the report. Finally, in order for the IPCC report to become official, the Panel as a whole must also review and approve it.
