Why did Nixon lose to Kennedy?
From wiki: “It has been frequently stated that those who heard the first televised debate on the radio thought that Nixon had won, while the TV viewers thought that Kennedy had won…University of Minnesota political scientist James N. Druckman later conducted a more rigorous experiment in which he showed the audio and video of the debate to different test subjects. His results confirmed the hypothesis that Kennedy won among TV viewers and lost among radio listeners. Regardless, the broader point which the anecdote is meant to support, namely the increasing power of television in shaping public perception of candidates, is indisputable. In addition, Nixon was clearly affected by his performance (and sickly physical appearance) in the first debate. He refused to watch any video of the debate for the rest of his life.
