Why New York Called Big Apple?
There are several different stories as to why New York is called the big apple. While the name wasn’t officially adopted by city officials until 1971, many people have been using the name since the 1920s. The first reference is believed to have been in 1909 when Martin Wayfarer said that the country’s economy was like a tree with many roots, but like a big apple New York received the majority of the sap.
