How successful is EVLT?
There are no long term results available however short and medium term results are quite good. According to one study the vein was successfully closed in 98% of 500 patients at 1 month and 93% at 2 years. None of the veins reopened over a period of 2 years. However one may need further sclerotherapy in outpatients for residual veins at 6-12 weeks period. In the UK, National Institute for Clinical Excellence has approved this method in 2004 for treating varicose veins as long as there are provisions in place for after-care and follow-up.
