Round about 2,000 castles but the exact number isn’t really known. Contact the Scottish Tourist Agency and ask for information about recommended tours, places to visit, etc. That should help you plan your trip. Bed & Breakfast accommodation is pretty good and inexpensive. Quite a good plan if you are touring is to map out your route up the West Coast, spending 2 or 3 nights at each stop, exploring that particular area, then travelling back down through Edinburgh. Quite honestly, even a couple of months won’t do Scotland justice. Take mosquito repellent for the West Coast from May onwards and if you get a spell of good weather, make sure you have a good sunscreen. The air is so clear that you will burn easily – Pitlochry in June is the only place in the World where my shoulders have blistered while wearing a sleeveless dress, doing normal shopping.
