Do Toyota race NASCARs?
Yes, that was in fact a Toyota you saw. Toyota uses the Camry, Chevrolet uses the Impala, Ford uses the Fusion, and Dodge uses the Charger. All of them are major market sedans. And the engines they use are purely for racing, as all teams are required to use a V8. Although each manufacturer may have slightly different varieties of V8 engines, they are essentially the same. They must fit into NASCAR’s rulebook in order to race. NASCAR never had restrictions on what auto makers could participate. Anyone is free to join the series, pretty much. There were even rumors around last year that Volkswagen was joining NASCAR. That rumor has pretty much died down. But for a very very long time, it was only the American manufacturers competing. Back in the 50’s and I suppose very early 60’s, other automakers like Jaguar participated. Toyota joined in the lower Truck series back in 2004, but didn’t join the upper and more elite Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series until the 2007 season.
