Why cats bite?
Cudos to Caxie, and Gene78, you are both right on the money. Biting is a natural instinct for cats as well as an expression of affection, when they are in a loving mood. But as Caxie said if the biting becomes to frequent or painful, diversion is the best method. I had a cat that every morning at 6am would climb on my chest and bite my nose, not out of aggression, but out of love. However, sometimes she would get carried away and bite so hard she would draw blood. I just had to tell her that if she wanted to give mommy a kiss she had to be gentle, it took 2 or 3 times of telling her to be gentle, and low and behold, she lightened up on her overbearing kisses. She died a year and a half ago at the age of 17 and I still miss those early morning kisses.
