You can’t go wrong with 4lb P-Line CXX. I’ve landed plenty of steelhead on that line, so that should attest to it’s worth. It’s super thin, very durable, and strong. If you’re looking for something that’s a little more on the typical side, then I’d say Ande 6lb, or Maxima Ultragreen 4-6lb. Maxima is very strong for the line rating. Don’t always trust the mm/in. diameter listed on the box!! They are not always accurate. We’ve done line tests where we check breaking strength and line diameter against what the manufacturer says. P-Line 4lb and 6lb are actually thinner than what’s listed. However, 8lb and up are all thicker than listed. Maxima is generally on the thick side. Their ultragreen line is slightly thicker than what’s listed. For trout fishing a lake, I’d say anything from 2lb (lightest) to 6lb (heaviest). For river/stream trout fishing, I’d say 4lb-8lb. You can always use a 4-8lb flouro leader to get that stealthy approach.
