0

Fossil basically means preserved. Fuel basically mean a source of energy. Combined, it means preserved energy. The source is from plants an animals many years ago which died and where covered up. In time and under high pressure, the energy was preserved and compressed into a fuel which ranges from gas to solid. Methane or natural gas is one extreme while coal is the opposite extreme. All of the liquid fuels including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and oil are derived from crude oil. Gases such as natural gas, propane, and butane are derived from gas pockets or distilled from crude oil. Solids such as waxes and plastics are derived from crude oil too. Why they form is in organic chemistry.
