What is the best diet for a gymnast?
I diet consisting of around 40% lean proteins, 40% good carbs and 20% good fats would be optimal for you. You should be getting enough calories throughout the day to fit your body composition, weight and activity level. If you aren’t getting enough adequate nutrition, you’ll stall on the gains and end up losing muscle and retaining bodyfat. However, it is a balancing act between getting enough and getting too many calories. For anyone, more meals throughout the day is best, around 5-6 is optimal. The serving sizes should be smaller than what we would consider a “normal” meal, but enough to meet requirements. This will enable you to keep insulin levels steady and stay in an anabolic state without gaining much in the way of bodyfat. If you don’t eat enough, your body then becomes efficient where it retains and builds on bodyfat but loses muscle, which is really bad for anyone and especially a gymnast.
