How big do leatherbacks get?
Leatherbacks are the largest turtles in the world! You need to see a picture of them next to a human in order to appreciate their enormous size. They can grow up to 2.5 m long (8 feet) and can weigh as much as 700 kg (1540 pounds)!! At Sandy Point in St. Croix, the females range from 131 to 177 cm in carapace length, and have weights from 259 to 506 kg.
