What /Who is Kuali?
The Kuali Foundation, according to their website is “a non-profit organization responsible for sustaining and evolving administrative software that meets the needs of all Carnegie Class institutions.” The Kuali Foundation (comprised of colleges and universities including MSU) is developing a suite of open-source modules that are better able to meet the functional requirements of higher education institutions. MSU will be using two modules, the Kuali Financial System (KFS) and Kuali Coeus (KC) for research administration. “Open source” means that development partners can make modifications to the software source code (unlike proprietary software like Microsoft Office or SAP). As a Kuali development partner, MSU will have the source code and therefore be able to act independently in making modifications.
