What is the PA-DSS?

The Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) is a set of guidelines to assist software vendors in constructing secure payment applications that help Agents and Merchants by supporting over all compliance with the PCI-DSS, mitigating compromises, and preventing storage or sensitive cardholder data such as full magnetic stride data, CVV, VCC2 or PIN data. The standards were initially created as the Payment Applications Best Practices by Visa, but the PCI-SSC has taken on the responsibility as of October 2008.
