How does the crime rate and response compare between the PAA and Kirkland?
Based on the figures we’ve seen so far, certain crimes such as motor vehicle thefts, motor vehicle prowls, and residential burglary are high in some areas of the PAA as they are in some areas within the City of Kirkland. With a higher number of patrol officers working in a geographical area, greater emphasis can be placed in problem areas. Criminals don’t recognize borders and with the very limited patrols King County currently has in the PAA, criminals working these areas eventually cross these borders. Our resources can focus on Kirkland problems, where King County has to spread resources over several areas in the county. • Q: How will we increase levels of service in Kirkland if we also pursue annexation? A: Service level increases generally require some sort of tax increase since annual revenue growth is generally only sufficient to address the increased cost of providing existing services (due to inflation, labor contracts, etc.).
