What Causes Gas Pains?

0

When you’re in grade school, gas is either funny or embarassing. When you get older it’s still embarassing and sometimes painful. People get gas for basically two reasons: 1) the digestive process releases gas; 2) swallowing air, particularly while eating, causes gas. Certain types of foods, particularly foods high in fiber and/or carbohydrates (most beans fall into both categories!) produce a lot of gas. For the most part, a little intestinal gas is just part of life and a sign of healthy digestion but when gas causes bloating and stomach pain it’s time to seek some relief. Please consult a doctor if you have prolonged or frequent periods of painful gas.
