Why on Paignton Green?
At the end of 2008 possible locations for the play park were explored. The funding criteria requires this to be a new play facility not the improvement of an existing park. This eliminated a number of existing parks in Paignton, including Victoria Park and Preston Green. Young’s Park in Goodrington was eliminated as it already had progressed plans for a small play facility. Two possible locations were finally identified – Torbay Park and the Preston end of Paignton Green (sometimes called Polsham Green). These locations were also consulted on in January 2009. 64% of the 1,000+ responders felt Torbay Park would be a good location, mostly because it was closer to the town centre and shops, more sheltered and away from the traffic. Notably only 18% of the 64% of those choosing Torbay Park did so because they did not want any changes to Paignton Green.
