How was Tennis For Tumors created?
Brittany Truitt founded Tennis For Tumors following the removal of a Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma in the fall of 2006. Six months following her surgery, “Brittany chose to respond to her positive recovery by seeking out a way to help others who were facing the same challenges. She carefully researched the best organization to receive the proceeds from Tennis For Tumors, and aggressively set out to make the most money possible for the organization through the Tennis For Tumors Event.” (Cindy Alexander, former adult leader) The tournament provides the community with a means for people to come together and play tennis for a worthwhile cause. The community rallies behind the event sharing stories and meeting other individuals affected by brain tumors. For some, the tournament is a way to show support for family and friends that have undergone treatment or currently being treated. For others, the tournament is a way to contribute to the community when a need is presented.
