Texas also has a “zero tolerance” law. It is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to drive with any detectable amount of alcohol. What are the penalties for DUI/DWI charges? The penalties for DUI/DWI charges depend on the number of times the person commits the same offense. For a first time offense, the penalties may be: • A fine of up to $ 2,000 fine; • 72 hours to 180 days in jail; and • Driver’s license suspension for a period ranging from 90 days to 1 year. For a second offense is committed second time, then the penalties may be: • Up to a $ 4,000 fine; • 30 days to 1 year in jail; and • Driver’s license suspension for a period ranging from 180 days to 2 years. If the offense is committed third time, then the penalties may be: • Up to a $ 10,000 fine; • A
