What is nonane fraction?
You will find the nonane fraction has substantial amounts of other hydrocarbons as well, both higher and lower (not so much) in the homologous series as well as cyclics of similar RMM, probably with small amounts of other undesirables/ (depending on source of petroleum such as thiols?) Alkanes from nonane to, for instance, hexadecane (an alkane with sixteen carbon atoms) are liquids of higher viscosity, less and less suitable for use in gasoline. They form instead the major part of diesel and aviation fuel. Diesel fuels are characterised by their cetane number, cetane being an old name for hexadecane. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higher_alka… Consider Hexane which is reasonably cheap and widely available. Drawback of hexane is extremely low flashpoint and high flammability!
