Start off with your Bachelors in History. When you’re done with that degree, pursue your Masters. This can be done at the university from which you received your BA. Or, you can move on to another University that specializes in your field. I have a Masters Degree in History myself. I chose 3 fields to concentrate on. You may need to do that as well. If you plan on going on for your PhD and be an “official” historian, you will probably need to write a Thesis. This is a major paper required as part of your Master’s degree program. Once the MA is completed, you move on the PhD program. Your Thesis will become part of your Dissertation which is the major paper written by PhD candidates. There is a lot of reading and paper writing for history degrees. But, there is a lot to learn. Take advantage of any opportunities that come your way- like interning at museums or visiting historical sites dealing with your degree.
