What are scalers?

0

Scalers are basically resolution converters that convert various video signals up to the native resolution of the display device. They come in 2 forms: * Built-in (to the display device) * External The built-in scalers are used every time a non-native resolution input is fed into an LCD/plasma display, or indeed a projector. Built-in scalers are convenient to use, but they are a compromise, particularly in the lower budget range of display equipment. If higher quality scaling is required, as in the more expensive AV installations, then external scalers are preferred.
