I attended medical school during a Family Nurse Practitioner Masters program with my heart set on becoming a midwife. Everyone has their heart set on some specialty when they first enter med school. But, as you go through your clinicals you get to practice all specialities of medicine at least a little and during those survey clinicals most people find their true “calling”. Men who choose gynecology aren’t necessarily in it for the money. And, malpractice insurance in that speciality is astronomical. It’s more like an intense interest develops in the science and diseases of women’s health for some people. Women’s health is an extremely intellectually challenging speciality, one that was actually too tough for me.
