What is presbyopia caused by?
Presbyopia results from the natural aging process. As the body ages, certain components are forced to work harder and become strained. The eyes are no exception. The eye’s crystalline lens experiences a gradual loss of flexibility and becomes rigid. The lack of flexibility prevents the lens from bending light properly to focus on objects up-close. Patients who are diagnosed with presbyopia are experiencing a loss of accommodation, or the ability to focus on objects close-up.
