How long should a ground rod be?

0

The one we sell is 5 ft long and fits most of the situations but in a very dry area the main concern is the length of your ground rod. If it is the case I would highly recommend 2 or 3 galvanized rods 8 feet long (2.50 meters) completely in the ground, at 6 to 7 feet in depth and at 7 feet apart into the earth and connected together with thick wire. The idea is to reach several points of the humidity of your under soil (of course mainly in summer…when the grass is rare). The humidity is the only part of your soil that conducts the jolt of your fence charger.
