Are crocodiles living dinosaurs?
No, dinosaurs were a different branch of the reptile family tree, crocodiles existed during the period in which the dinosaurs reigned, but their legs are not held under their bodies in the way dinosaurs legs were. Other contemporaries of the dinosaurs included the flying reptiles known as Pterosaurs, and the aquatic reptiles such as the Mosasaurs, Icthyosaurs and Plesiosaurs, it is a commonly held belief that these too were dinosaurs, but they were not. Likewise, there are a number of reptile species who evolved before the dinosaurs, who are commonly confused with them, one particularly well known member of this group is Dimetrodon.
