Generally speaking, it is not sinful. In fact it is essential to have ambition to reach higher goals or even Nirvana. In the initial period of practice, when one is not motivated the ambition encourages and motivates one towards one’s goal. Finally when one is motivated one shouldn’t have any thoughts of ambition because that time even ambition becomes a barrier for enlightenment because we need to stop all thoughts on that level.
