How does CWD spread?
Great question. Last year research was done that showed if you put healthy deer in a pen with CWD deer, the healthy deer get CWD. Also, if you put CWD deer in a pen then remove them for several years, and put healthy deer in that pen, they get CWD. If you put a carcass of a deer with CWD in a pen, leave it for awhile, a long while, then put in healthy deer, they get CWD. The latest research shows that the bad prions migrate from the brain thru nerves to the tongue. It then seems logical that they leave the deer via saliva and mucous from the mouth and nose. However, knowing this does not explain the latest research that shows that older bucks are more likely to get the disease (or at least to exhibit the disease) than younger bucks or does. Why is that? I don’t know. My friend, Nick Casto has a tree farm on the Cacapon River, near the location where the CWD buck was found. Nick has cameras up on his hunting property, and yesterday he sent me a photo of a decent seven point buck that sh
