Why is AMVETS developing the Symposium?
Our core mission is to help veterans. The Symposium will help us do this work better as we believe it will other organizations like ours. We are directly involved in assisting veterans obtain their earned benefits. Yet all too often we talk with veterans and their families who have been given short shrift when it comes to obtaining basic services such as health care. These are services America has promised to provide for veterans and their families. Yet because of budget shortfalls, poor planning or both, veterans wind up on the short end. The conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are creating a whole new generation of veterans. Through the Symposium we want to demonstrate how the veterans benefits system must be changed if we are to keep our promise to those who serve.
