Several groups of people refer to themselves as ‘Cyberpunks’, motivated by spate of Cyberpunk literature in the mid-80’s, because they correctly noticed the germs of the fictional “techno-system” in Western society today, and because they identified with the quasi-outcast characters in Cyberpunk stories. Within the last few years, the mass media has caught on to this, spontaneously dubbing certain people and groups “Cyberpunk”.
