What is a Root Barrier?

A root barrier is really an underground wall that blocks roots from harming your sidewalk, pool, tennis court, etc.  There are chemical and mechanical tree root barriers.
Mechanical/Physical root barriers are just blockers that force the roots to go downward versus towards the hardscape you are protecting.
Chemical root barriers use chemicals that kill the tree roots that touch it.

A root barrier is a physical barrier that roots can not cross. Metal edging strips around gardens act as root barriers, keeping grass out of flower beds.
