Why do some buildings need chillers?

0

Typically buildings taller than three stories need chillers. Water maintains cold for longer distances that an open air duct. In systems that need to carry cold longer distances water is used. Chillers typically have two loops – a refrigerant loop and a water loop. Permafrost is used to treat the Refrigerant loop. Our new product coming out in the next few months will treat the water loop. Because refrigerant captures heat and loses its cold, a refrigerant loop can’t travel as far. Water loops may travel up several stories (high rise) buildings. Water cooled chillers are simply more efficient in cooling very large spaces over large distances.
