Thyroxin is secreted by thyroid glands and plays a major role in normal metabolism and growth. Normal production of thyroxin requires optimum amount of iodine. Iodine is essential for the health and normal functionality of thyroid glands. Lack of iodine may cause goiter and enlarged thyroid.
