Originally known as the “Missouri Rockets,” the dance group was founded in 1925 by Russell Markert in St. Louis. During the holiday season, the Rockettes performed 5 live shows a day, seven days a week. The “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” is performed each year at Radio City Music Hall and in several other cities. With an audience of over 2 million per year, it is one of the most-watched live shows in the United States. The Rockettes also perform annually at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the America’s Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit. The NBC Rockefeller Center Tree-Lighting Ceremony also includes a performance by the dance team.
