Are Savannahs “hypo-allergenic”?
No, to the best of my knowledge, they are not hypo-allergenic. They do have short hair, which is probably easier to deal with, but they have not been bred to be hypo-allergenic and most likely still have the same protein in their saliva that causes allergic reactions. Many, if not most Savannahs have a number of different breeds in their pedigrees, including Egyptian Mau, Oriental Shorthair, Bengal, Serengeti, Ocicat, Maine Coon, Chausie, and regular Domestic Shorthairs. If you are allergic to any of these, you will probably also be allergic to Savannahs. If you have a mild cat allergy, or allergies that are well-controlled through medication and are considering getting a Savannah kitten, I would advise visiting the breeder first, if possible, to see how you react.
