What causes bloody stools?
Bloody stools often occur as a result of something that does not agree with your dog or cat’s stomach such as spoiled food, table scraps, garbage or road kill. Allergies to certain foods, a change in regular diet, ingesting poisons and toxins or a reaction to drugs may also cause blood-tinged stools. Other causes of bloody stools include digestive related disorders such as diarrhea, colitis, inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD), stomach ulcer, pancreatitis as well as intestinal parasites. In addition, bloody stools may also be associated with, viral, fungal or bacterial infections, liver or kidney failure and cancer. Bloody stools are not healthy or normal, and it is definitely a cause for concern! Consult your vet immediately if you notice bloody stools. Remember that it is very important to check your pet’s stools for any abnormalities.
