How many people drink kava?
From the late 1980s there was an increase in the number of people drinking kava: • in 1986, about 42 per cent of men and 12 per cent of women in kava using communities said they drank kava (Watson et al 1988:18) • in 1992, about 70 per cent of men and 30 per cent of women reported drinking kava (d’Abbs 1993:22) Research has also found that the amount of kava being drunk increased between the 1980s and 1992 (d’Abbs 1993:24).
