Why did WASC put Hartnell College on probation?
After a comprehensive review of Hartnell’s operations and academic programs, WASC detailed seven specific recommendations for improvement. The recommendations include improving our internal and external governance procedures, developing and documenting student learning outcomes, promulgating ethical rules by and for our governing body that include sanctions for their violation, improving program reviews, and improving institutional planning procedures by tying program review and assessment of student learning with budget and other planning processes. Some of these recommendations were first made in 2000 and one was made as early as 1994, without the college resolving them to the satisfaction of WASC. The entire four-page letter may be read here.
