How Do You Propagate Peperomia?
Peperomias rank among the easiest plants to propagate with tip cuttings or leaf cuttings. Using tip cuttings will produce new plants more quickly. Select a healthy portion of the plant you want to propagate and remove a 3 inch cutting from the tip. For best results, attempt propagation in the spring or early summer. Dip the bottom tip of the propagated stem into a cup of water and then into rooting hormone powder. Lightly shake off excess powder until a thin coating remains on the stem. Rooting powder can be purchased at most garden centers. Fill a small 3 inch pot with a slightly moist potting mix. Peperomia propagations need aerated soil, so choose a mix high in perlite or coarse sand. Create your own mix by mixing one part peat moss with one part perlite or coarse sand. Place the cutting in bright light but away from direct sunlight. The cutting should not be exposed to a temperature below 65 degrees F. Water the Peperomia propagation sparingly.
