Why construct a synthetic cell?
We believe that the ability to “write the genetic code” as we describe synthetic genomics research will enable a better understanding of the fundamentals of living cells. It will also enable us to direct cells and organisms to perform jobs, such as creating clean water or new biofuels that natural species cannot currently do to the needed scale and efficiencies.
