What is Takayasus Disease?
What is Takayasu’s Disease?Answer: Takayasu’s disease, or Takayasu’s arteritis, is a chronic disease of the major arteries of the body, such as those that bring blood to the the brain, or the kidneys. In this disease, the arteries become inflamed, and lead to major damage to the organs they normally supply with blood. The damage occurs after inflammation of the arterial wall becomes so overwhelming that blood flow through the affected arteries stops, depriving organs from much needed oxygen and nutrients. Takayasu’s disease is thought to be an autoimmune disorder that begins early in life and causes severely high blood pressure, pain in the joints, fatigue, and in severe cases, strokes, respiratory failure, and heart attacks. Takayasu’s disease is a rare cause of stroke.
