No animal type is endemic (found only there) to clay soil. Earthworms and nematodes, amoebae, and various insects are found in every soil. The amount of moisture, and temperature of the soil determine the number and types of animals in any particular soil. Speciation (change in variety) of animals is due more to geography than to any soil type. In the island country of New Zealand there are over 250 indigenous earthworms found no where else in the world. Higher forms of ground dwelling animals (moles, rabbits, nutrias) can migrate easier, but are still subject to physical barriers of oceans and mountain ranges.
