WinOPS is a large, relational database and it can “break”. Most of the breakage experienced is usually related to either a local area network operating system (Windows NT or Novell) conflict with the workstations operating system (Windows 95/98/2000/NT), or actual hardware problems. Novell recently released a newer version of their workstation “client” that caused problems and Microsofts recent “service packs” for NT appear to have problems with Windows 95 and 98. In all cases, we have been able to find solutions to the problems, but it is important to remember that as the “foundation” changes (network and workstation operating systems), it is important that you be prepared to upgrade both the server and workstations together in order to avoid unnecessary conflicts. On a lesser but more frequent scale, electrical problems within WinOPS user locations can cause damage.
