Should America tighten gun laws?

The person who says that gun laws don’t affect criminals isn’t giving the whole story. Without guns in households, you have less: accidental shootings, children getting hold of guns without really understanding the dangers, shootings in anger that are later regretted, and suicide by guns. There are so many scenarios where ordinary, law-abiding people are on the wrong end of legalised firearms, and as such a) are injured, b) are killed, c) have to spend the rest of their lives wracked with guilt and/or d) are punished for gun-crimes. The truth is that the more guns there are, the more unplanned, accidental or irrational shootings there are. And the less guns there are, the more difficult it is for criminals to get hold of them. For personal protection, I prefer a concealable semi-automatic handgun. For protection in the home, in close quarters, I prefer a semi-automatic shotgun. If a right to life truly exists then so too does the right to protect life and a right to the tools necessary to protect life. To deny a person the ability to protect life is to deny the right to life. It would be as if the right is nonexistent. If your government does not respect the right to life, that’s your problem. If your government does not trust its people with arms and forces them to relinquish them, there’s something wrong with your government. If your people have willingly surrendered their right to protect themselves, then there is someth
