Suntheanine is the trade name for Taiyo’s patented enzymatically synthesized L-theanine (L-glutamic acid-gamma-monoethylamide). L-theanine, a unique amino acid found almost exclusively in tea plants (Camellia sinensis), constitutes between 1 to 2% of the dry weight of tea leaves, is the predominant amino acid component in tea, and exists in the free (non-protein) form.
