What are Ant Farms?
When I was a kid, we built our own ant farms ourselves, usually from two sheets of glass separated by thin strips of wood around the edges. We filled ’em with sand and a few ants and watched the little critters beavering away in there, building tunnels and chambers. They worked well but it was very much a matter of trial and error to prevent the tunnels from collapsing and making sure that the ants were fed correctly. Now, however… …technology has caught up with the ant farm and many different types of ant farm kits are available. The kits contain all that you need to set up your ant farm and usually an instructional booklet that describes the various ecological and sociological principles that can be observed. They make great presents for kids, especially if you want to get them away from the TV for a few hours! They’ll especially appreciate the new cool illuminated gel ant farms.
