What are Hidden files?
Any file with a name that begins with a period or dot (.) on UNIX and Linux systems. They are called “hidden files” because by default, they are not included in a directory listing when using an FTP client, e.g., WS-FTP or CuteFTP. User configuration files (.htaccess) are often hidden to prevent accidental deletion or modification. Directory password files (.htpasswd) are also hidden for the same reasons.
